The whole school community is delighted with the GCSE results its students have achieved this year. The school has gained its best overall results since the Covid pandemic, and the results are a credit to all the young people who’ve worked so hard to unlock their potential and now can face their next steps with confidence. We're pleased that the number of top grades, 7-9 at GCSE, has significantly increased, a trend that goes against what's happened across the North East. A good education is about giving all young people the knowledge, skills and self-belief they deserve and the freedom to choose whatever their next steps will be. There is no hierarchy within that choice, no one path to success, it’s the freedom to choose that’s so important, and these results will allow our students to make those choices.

The achievement of these students would not have been possible without the support of so many staff here. From those who have gone above and beyond in providing high-quality lessons, targeted interventions, those running early morning revision sessions, after-school study clubs and of course the lunch time booster sessions. Crucially, so many staff across the school have forged strong relationships with students, so they felt a sense of security and belonging here, the first crucial steps that lead to happiness and success.

We also recognise all the work of the many parents and carers who have offered encouragement and support to their children across their time here. Education is a partnership, and the collaboration between home and school has been a key factor in the success we celebrate today.

Mr Moran, Head of Year, said:

"The overwhelming feeling this morning is one of immense pride. Pride in our wonderful Year 11 students, whose dedication, hard work and resilience have been evident throughout their journey and have culminated in a fantastic set of results. It has been a real pleasure to hear about the exciting journeys they are now preparing to embark upon, and to see the confidence and enthusiasm with which they are looking towards their next chapter.

A huge congratulations to each and every one of them. You should be incredibly proud of what you have achieved.

A heartfelt thank you from both Mr Chivers and myself for all of your hard work, commitment and determination. We wish you every success and happiness for the future."

Many students will be today enrolling in our own 6th Form to continue their studies. Others are leaving us, their results giving them the freedom to make the right choice for them. To all these students we say, "you'll always be our students" and remember that our support doesn't end when you receive your envelope today.

Framwellgate School Durham is a true community school, and everyone who studies or works here recognises that they remain part of that community due to the strength of those bonds.

Congratulations everyone.
